Anasazi Trail and Petroglyphs

Today Mike and I were planing on riding Barrel Roll Trail but Swiss Days in Santa Clara  messed that plan up, so we hit Anasazi Trail instead. The temperature is perfect  for mountain biking right now.  not to hot, not to cold.  It was an uneventful day just a nice leisurely ride

Sidewinder Trail

Today I decided to go for a solo ride again, this time I chose Sidewinder Trail. This is a new trail located inside the Santa Clara River Preserve. It shares the same trailhead as Barrel roll and Black Bush Trail. You start off on Barrel Roll trail and after about 130 ft it branches off on Precipice Trail.

Precipice Trail is cut into the side of the mesa just below Barrel roll, and after about a mile it branches off again. If you go right then it will hook into Barrel Roll and if you go Left then it will hook into Sidewinder Trail. This is where the real fun starts. Sidewinder is a trail made up of switch backs that never seems to end and is about a 300ft climb in about 2.5 miles.

This trail has many tech parts nothing really hard. I only walked one part and that was a little rock stunt on top. It had a 90 degree left turn off a drop with  a cliff to the right so I wasn't feeling that sporty after a 500ft climb. The downhill is really fun, but is very short lived because of the silt in the corners of the switchbacks. Right before you join back up with Precipice Trail and/or Barrel roll there is a little jump that won't get you that high but you can fly a good distance depending on your speed.

Barrel Roll Trail 5/2/09

I went for a solo ride this morning on Barrel Roll Trail in Santa Clara. I haven't riden it for a few months so I sort of forgot how much of a workout it is. I was using this as my training ride before I try Zen Trail in a few weeks.

The ride went really good for me. I forgot about all the tech stuff but there was nothing that held me back. It took me about an 1:45 minutes to run, which is a major improvement on my first time of about 3 hours. so I got some good photos, some good exercise, and I didn't crash.

Fly Fishing Santa Clara River.

I went up with my friend Statton and his dad early today to Baker Res. Just south of Central, Utah. The main river in and out of Baker Res. is the Santa Clara River. After Statton and I got tired of fishing the dam with no luck we decided to head down to where the river flows out of the dam. At the start it was really shallow and could clearly see there was no fish in it.

We had to hike about a mile downstream to get to some pools that had fish in it. The trout in this area spook really easy. It's nearly impossible not to spook them just because the sun was on the wrong side. The bush and trees close in real fast and is hard to get in to cast a fly. I lost one fly and got hung up on branches countless times. We did all that for nothing because all three of us got skunked.

The next time I make it up there I'm going to try to fish it where the Santa Clara comes into Baker Res.

Anasazi Trail

[slideshow id=6]

Anasazi Trail wasn't too bad on saturday. Kent and me made good time climbing 550ft to the top, But I think I pushed myself to my limit today. I was feeling good untill I got 50ft from the top. We had a nice break took some photos and Kent took off for the top. I stayed for a second and just when I was about to get going I threw up four times. too bad Kent wasn't around because that would have been a sweet photo

After That I wasn't doing so good. I made it to the top and rode down to the petroglyphs and took a break. Kent went down the cliff edge and got pictures while i stayed on top tring to walk off my sickness. other then that very uneventfull for me.

I decided instead of going back through the rough rock gardens and slick rock, I decided it would be best to ride the highway back to Santa Clara.

Barrel Roll Trail

[slideshow id=4]
Well after taking a week off because my knee wasn't doing so good, me and some friends rode the Barrel Roll Trail today, And it is 6 miles of pure hell. Big climbs and rock gardens up and down. I went down some big rock drops but it's the little ones that get you.

I went off this small drop on my way down. It’s one of those drops that you don't care about and just cruse off of it. Well I wasn't so lucky. My front tire goes down and just sticks. I go flying over the bars and crash. My GPS goes rolling down the hill and I bend my break leaver.... again, and it's the same one. I’m sorry I didn't get video of it. I thought I was getting good video of the downhill just before I ate it, but no it was in picture mode.

It’s super rocky and I don't plan on doing this one anytime soon.. It has switch backs up and switch backs down. If you do this trail make sure you pack extra tubes.
