Sidewinder Trail

Today I decided to go for a solo ride again, this time I chose Sidewinder Trail. This is a new trail located inside the Santa Clara River Preserve. It shares the same trailhead as Barrel roll and Black Bush Trail. You start off on Barrel Roll trail and after about 130 ft it branches off on Precipice Trail.

Precipice Trail is cut into the side of the mesa just below Barrel roll, and after about a mile it branches off again. If you go right then it will hook into Barrel Roll and if you go Left then it will hook into Sidewinder Trail. This is where the real fun starts. Sidewinder is a trail made up of switch backs that never seems to end and is about a 300ft climb in about 2.5 miles.

This trail has many tech parts nothing really hard. I only walked one part and that was a little rock stunt on top. It had a 90 degree left turn off a drop with  a cliff to the right so I wasn't feeling that sporty after a 500ft climb. The downhill is really fun, but is very short lived because of the silt in the corners of the switchbacks. Right before you join back up with Precipice Trail and/or Barrel roll there is a little jump that won't get you that high but you can fly a good distance depending on your speed.

I'm in a red shirt, brown shorts, silver helmet, silver bike, and in the lead most of the time.

JEM And Bearclaw Poppy Trails.

Last Saturday I joined up with Justin McFarland (part owner of Bogley.com) and some of his friends from Ogden, Utah. Around 11:00 A.M. we all meet up at the bottom trailhead of JEM and shuttled to the top trailhead. Justin, Mark, and me led the pack most of the way. I found out the hard way that the banks are soft in the corners. The first time my bike slid out from under me, I was lucky to gain control again. The second time, I was also able to gain control again, but couldn't get back on the track quick enough and ended up hitting a bush and going over the handle bars. :D

After some lunch and rest, I meet back up with Justin and Mark to tackle Bearclaw Poppy Trail. Now after one near crash, one actual crash, and a scary ride next to the cliff on JEM. Bearclaw was just a walk in the park. Nothing seemed to faze me. We bombed down that as fast as we could and it only seemed like it took us 30 minutes to get to the bottom.

This was one of the best days I've had mountain biking it quite some time. I'm glad I got a chance to meet up with Justin and the other northern pros. :) When Justin gets done with the videos I'll be sure to post them.

Announcement: Don't ride Bearclaw when it's wet and muddy! It's damaging the trail. It leaves ruts from the tires and when it dries the clay hardens like a rock. The result is a very bumpy and torn up trail.  Again please don't ride Bearclaw Poppy Trail when it is wet.

Bearclaw Poppy Trail again

Kent, me, Statton, Taylor, and Ben did the Bearclaw poppy trail again. It’s been a few months since Taylor, Ben and I did it. I spend half of the night saying to myself "don't chicken out, don't chicken out." before I know it, it was 3:00am after Kent got lost a few weeks back we decided to take him down the right way.

I don't know about Kent but I looked at my GPS track log and I have a few circles in it. But I eventually committed to dropping in. as did Kent.

Anasazi Trail

[slideshow id=6]

Anasazi Trail wasn't too bad on saturday. Kent and me made good time climbing 550ft to the top, But I think I pushed myself to my limit today. I was feeling good untill I got 50ft from the top. We had a nice break took some photos and Kent took off for the top. I stayed for a second and just when I was about to get going I threw up four times. too bad Kent wasn't around because that would have been a sweet photo

After That I wasn't doing so good. I made it to the top and rode down to the petroglyphs and took a break. Kent went down the cliff edge and got pictures while i stayed on top tring to walk off my sickness. other then that very uneventfull for me.

I decided instead of going back through the rough rock gardens and slick rock, I decided it would be best to ride the highway back to Santa Clara.
